Yangon, 1 May

A coordination meeting on orderly installation of telecommunications cables and power lines and proper vehicle parking in Yangon Region was held this morning at Mingala Hall, Yangon Region Government Office. Union Minister U Mya Tun Oo, Minister for Transport and for Digital Development and Communications, attended with Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu, Region High Court Chief Justice Daw Sandar Thwe, regional government members, departmental heads, district management and administration committee chairpersons, telecommunications companies and officials.

In his opening remarks, the Union Minister called for cooperation between departments and telecommunications companies to organise cables and power lines in keeping with the city’s character. As the underground cable network along Pyay Road had been successful, planned work should continue along Kaba Aye Pagoda Road and Waizayantar Road. The telecommunications network expansion coordination committee and district cable-clearing teams should implement work systematically in each district and township. The regional government and Posts and Telecommunications Department should coordinate as needed, and the four operators and service companies should cooperate in all activities. To help address the fuel crisis affecting the international community, operators should work together on resource-sharing measures that improve the performance of the whole network.

He also instructed officials to enforce rules against motorcycles and slow-moving vehicles entering prohibited roads in Yangon, and to take effective action under traffic regulations against vehicles with open exhausts, group street racing and parking in prohibited places.

Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu presented current and planned regional activities concerning cables, power lines and parking.

Posts and Telecommunications Department Director General U Myo Swe explained authorised telecommunications services in Yangon Region and matters requiring cooperation with operators.

Participants discussed their respective activities. The Union Minister coordinated the submissions by sector and delivered concluding remarks.
