Yangon, 14 July 2026

MPT today announced further expansion of its mobile network in line with its commitment to keeping people across Myanmar connected. It has opened 27 new mobile stations and upgraded nine existing stations to high-speed 4G LTE, enabling customers and businesses in eight regions and states to access reliable, high-quality communications and enjoy the benefits of digital life more easily.

Reliable mobile networks are now essential for digital education, online businesses and staying in touch with family and friends. This expansion focuses on areas previously underserved by network coverage. Rural residents and farmers can now connect with cities and the wider world and obtain market information in real time. Students can find educational resources more easily, while small and medium-sized businesses can use digital technology to market and distribute their products more widely. Through the expansion, MPT is making digital services more accessible and supporting social and economic development across Myanmar.

The 27 new stations were built in Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory, Kayin State, Mon State, eastern and southern Shan State, Ayeyawady Region and eastern Bago Region. Nine existing stations in Magway Region were upgraded to high-speed 4G LTE, providing faster and higher-quality communications to local communities.

To mark the expansion, MPT held an opening ceremony with local residents on 12 July 2026 at the newly completed station in Gway Pin Yoe village, Ottarathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory. The remaining stations will continue to open in the regions and states so customers can benefit from improved services as soon as possible.

Mr Minoru NAGATA of MPTJO’s technology division said: “Telecommunications has become indispensable, and as mobile internet use grows, we continually strive to extend services to underserved areas. By opening 27 new stations and upgrading nine existing stations to 4G LTE, we are focusing on better connectivity and services for customers. Through continuous network improvements, MPT is committed not only to reliable communications for communities throughout Myanmar but also to supporting social and economic development.” His remarks reflected the balance between MPT’s growth and its focus on customers.

Since launching 4G/LTE in October 2016, MPT has accelerated public access to advanced mobile technology. Its extensive 4G/LTE network now covers more than 300 townships and 96% of the population nationwide. MPT thanks customers for their continuing trust and support. Beyond providing telecommunications, it continues to innovate to improve people’s digital lives.
